"This piece is a painting version of Tohpati’s cover album ‘‘Maru’’. The phenomenon of ‘’New Normal’’ is one of the biggest inspirations for the album. After further discussion, surrealism was chosen as the main visual genre to convey the phenomenon of ‘’New Normal’’ that makes us have to adapt to situations that are outside of our ‘normal’ daily lives. The intention of this work was to create a visual that seemed strange or outlandish. With that in mind, I modified typical scenes such as grass and mountains that are common and familiar conception of landscapes in most people’s minds by combining them with other visual elements and compositions, such as replacing the mountain with a woman’s head with hair that looks like rocks, flowers that have a face, and two birds that become the ‘’eyes’’ on the woman’s face. The digital version of this painting won AMI Awards 2021 for the best graphic album."
